SHIPTide Training

Abstract

Targeted at the Adobe-based graphic designer, this video shows how to quickly create images needed for any circular gauge in Illustrator.

Video

In minutes, you can create and export all 360 (one per degree of rotation) transparent 24-bit color PNGs. Optionally, using Adobe Fireworks, the video shows how to batch-translate them into 8 bit transparent PNGs for potential memory savings.

Concepts covered:

  • Creating the gauge’s needle in Adobe Illustrator
  • Exporting, using a handy Illustrator script (see below), all 360 rotated versions in seconds to 24-bit PNGs with transparency
  • Batch translating the images in Fireworks to 8-bit PNGs with transparency

Adding the Script to Illustrator

Just unzip and copy the download attachment of this appnote into your Adobe Illustrator scripts directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS6 (64 Bit)\Presets\en_US\Scripts). Then it will be available in Illustrator under File->Scripts->Save360PNGs.
